The number of firearms manufactured in the U.S. for sale to American customers hit an all-time high in 2012, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (BATFE) new Firearms Manufacturers and Export Report. American firearm manufacturers produced roughly 8.3 million firearms for sale in the U.S., a new record, up 33 percent from the 6.2 million produced for American customers in 2011.THE VOLOKH CONSPIRACY

The gun factories are now operating 24/7 with new orders in for multi-million dollar CNC machines that can speed up output of assault rifles and high capacity pocket pistols, the demand over which had not slowed. UPS and Fed-Ex, accordingly, show increased revenue; and the ammo manufacturers can't keep up with filling gun store shelves. The police on the street and the sheriffs have come out against gun control; and the pro-gun public sentiment since the shootings in Connecticut has grown from 16% to about 50%.
In other words, most Americans don't want gun control, don't want Obamacare, don't want Obama, don't want government interference in the press, and don't want the NSA uploading the contents of their computers and all the sexy gun porn pictures they had downloaded.

The chart below shows how Shall Issue laws for the licensed carrying of firearms for self-defense have become the American norm.
As of 1986, slightly less than 10% of the U.S. population lived in states where there were objective and fair procedures for the issuance of concealed handgun carry permits. About a third of the population lived in states where there was not even a process to apply for a permit. The majority of the population lived in states where issuance in permits was highly discretionary, and many issuing authorities refused to issue to ordinary law-abiding citizens.
By 2014, the percentage of people living in the Red states, with no possibility of even applying for a permit, has declined to zero. Illinois’ 2013 reforms ended the problem of states not even having a process theoretically available. (The problem persists in DC, but this chart is only for states.)

France and the BDS Movement
Over the last year, France has displayed courage and initiative in dealing with the threat of Islamic fundamentalism in African countries. Now it is taking the lead in using legal means to counter and punish not only racists, but also those participating in the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, which the French legal system views as an expression of anti-Semitism and as a crime.
Under normal circumstances and in ordinary times, no one sharing democratic values would favor limits on free speech or expression. However, the world is aware of the abnormality of the German Nazi crimes in implementing their anti-Semitic ideology. In recent years, a number of countries have criminalized hate speech intended to incite violence against particular groups. These criminal laws are based on the London Charter for the Nuremberg Tribunal, in which advocacy and dissemination of anti-Semitism were first defined as crimes against humanity.

Adviser Fired by Obama for Hamas Meeting Gets Top WH Security Job
A radical foreign policy adviser fired by President Obama years ago for meeting with the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas has been hired by the White House to be the senior director at the National Security Council (NSC).
How generous of the commander-in-chief to let bygones be bygones when it comes to this extremist, a Middle East “expert” named Robert Malley whose family had close ties to Yasser Arafat, founder of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Fatah movement. Malley was an adviser in Bill Clinton’s White House and he consistently exonerates Palestinians and condemns Israel.
Over the years he has published a number of newspaper opinion pieces urging the United States to reach out and negotiate with terrorist enemies like Hamas, Hezbollah and Muqtada al-Sadr. A website that documents the networks and agendas of the political left offers details about Malley’s scary past and provides links to the outrageous articles he’s published, including several co-written with Hussein Agha, a former adviser to Arafat.
Malley grew up in France and his Egyptian-born father was a key figure in Egypt’s communist party and a close friend of Arafat’s. His parents were fervently anti-Israel and huge supporters of several leftist revolutionary liberation movements, especially the Palestinian cause. Malley published a piece in a mainstream newspaper declaring that Israel was responsible for the failure of Bill Clinton’s peace talks with the Palestinians. Malley attended the 2000 event, which was held at Camp David because it was the site of the landmark 1978 Israeli-Egyptian peace accords.
When Obama launched his 2008 presidential campaign, he brought Malley on as a foreign policy adviser focusing on the Middle East. The then-Illinois senator reportedly dumped Malley around May for meeting with and having regular contact with Hamas, which has long been classified as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department. A London newspaper broke the story about Malley getting the boot for schmoozing it up with terrorists and U.S. media repeated the line, but Middle Eastern press published a vastly different version.

Climate-change proponents have made their cause a matter of fealty and faith. For folks who pretend to be brave carriers of the scientific ethic, there’s more than a tinge of religion in their jeremiads. If you whore after other gods, the Bible tells us, “the Lord’s wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit” (Deuteronomy 11).

Computer models of climate change have been dead wrong, yet alarmists aim to quell debate.
I repeat: I’m not a global-warming believer. I’m not a global-warming denier. I’ve long believed that it cannot be good for humanity to be spewing tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. I also believe that those scientists who pretend to know exactly what this will cause in 20, 30, or 50 years are white-coated propagandists.
“The debate is settled,” asserted propagandist-in-chief Barack Obama in his latest State of the Union address. “Climate change is a fact.” Really? There is nothing more anti-scientific than the very idea that science is settled, static, impervious to challenge.Take a non-climate example. It was long assumed that mammograms help reduce breast cancer deaths. This fact was so settled that Obamacare requires every insurance plan to offer mammograms (for free, no less).Now we learn from a massive randomized study — 90,000 women followed for 25 years — that mammograms may have no effect on breast-cancer deaths.
Settled? Even the U.K.’s national weather service concedes there’s been no change — delicately called a “pause” — in global temperature in 15 years. If even the raw data is recalcitrant, let alone the assumptions and underlying models, how settled is the science?

Last Friday, Obama ostentatiously visited drought-stricken California. Surprise! He blamed climate change. Here even the New York Times gagged, pointing out that far from being supported by the evidence, “the most recent computer projections suggest that as the world warms, California should get wetter, not drier, in the winter.”
How inconvenient. But we’ve been here before. Hurricane Sandy was made the poster child for the alleged increased frequency and strength of “extreme weather events” like hurricanes.
Nonsense. Sandy wasn’t even a hurricane when it hit the U.S. Indeed, in all of 2012, only a single hurricane made U.S. landfall. And 2013 saw the fewest Atlantic hurricanes in 30 years. In fact, in the last half-century, one-third fewer major hurricanes have hit the U.S. than in the previous half-century.
Similarly tornadoes. Every time one hits, the climate-change commentary begins. Yet last year saw the fewest in a quarter-century. "I can't see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report," wrote Jones. "Kevin and I will keep them out somehow — even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!"

Dear Holy One, I read your sacred text, Earth in the Balance, when I was in 7th grade and it changed my whole life. Later I saw your fabulous movie An Inconvenient Truth - nine times, and didn't even get up to go tinkle, ever! You are so special to me.
Knowing your deep wisdom and knowledge of the cosmos and hockey sticks and all those cool things, I have a question: I am currently in the hospital, due to an unfortunate event last week. I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan, which, ages ago, had very cold winters. Knowing how global warming continues to threaten our sacred planet, I was sitting on my parents' patio (I live in the basement) nude sunbathing (I am vitamin D-deficient) and somehow in the course of the afternoon my scrotum became frozen and attached to the metal chair in which I was sitting. Efforts to remove me from the chair were fruitless (pardon the puns), so I am now in a local hospital, part time in the intensive care unit, part time in what is called the "behavioral health" unit. None of these so-called medical professionals seems to understand why I was sitting in a metal chair outdoors during a record snowfall. I told them I was a Man of Faith.
Can you pull some strings and help me get released from this awkward situation? My parents are, for some strange reason, not returning my calls nor coming by to visit, and I understand they already rented out my basement apartment and may have - Gaia forbid! -given away my comic book collection. Also, I may require extensive skin grafts on what is left of my scr0tum (parts of it are still stuck to the metal chair). One of the attending physicians keeps referring to something called "completing this half-done orchidectomy," whatever that means.
